JERRY POWERS SR. Gerald R. “Jerry” Powers Sr., 87, formerly of Payson, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday (December 19, 2018) at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy. Born September 26, 1931 in Adams County, Illinois, Jerry was the son of James and Mary Gladys McClain Powers.

He married Wilma R. Sparrow on May 26, 1951 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2000. He married Cleo Slater on November 13, 2007 in Payson.

She survives. Jerry farmed and drove a truck for many years. He enjoyed coon hunting, gardening, watching old western’s and going to the dirt track to watch the grandkids.

He especially loved playing with his pup daschund “Sissy”. Survivors include his wife, Cleo; his son, Gerald Powers Jr. (Carma) of Plainville, IL; three daughters, Sheryl “Sherry” Johnson (Dale) of Port Charlotte, Florida, Nancy Powers of Quincy and Patricia Lee “Patti” Ziegler of Hull, IL; two step sons Darrell Slater (Judy) of Marcelline, IL and Randy Slater (Kay) of Moscow Mills, MO; one step daughter Sandy Dietrich (Gary) of Payson. Also surviving are grandchildren, Josh Renner, Justin Turner (Nicole), Brianna Turner, Jerry Powers III (Laura), April Shaffer (Will) and Jake Powers (Ashley); step grandchildren Albert Slater (Jean), Ivadell Abernathy (Chris), Shawn Slater (Sonja), Brandy Patterson (Jeff), Shauna Gadberry (Russell), Chad Dietrich, Ryan Dietrich, Krista Forrest (Darren) and Brad Brewer; great grandchildren Jace, Jay, Addie, Autumn, Jerry IV, Ashton, Abbey, Alainabelle, Amberlyn, Jaxon; step great grandchildren Cheyanne, Levi, Joe, Quinta, Zhaleah, Shamaya, Karlie, Conner, Caden, Kendyl, Kyla, Jacob, Alexis, Joel and Logan; step great great grandchildren Kendall, Harper and Jude.

Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wilma; four brothers Lee, Gene, Elmer and Gilbert Powers, one sister Florean Taylor and a step son Ronnie Slater. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning 10:00 a.m. (December 27, 2018) in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery near Plainville.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home in Payson and Thursday morning until the time of services at the funeral home in Payson. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Cemetery.
