MARY L. NELSON Mary Lou Nelson, 87, of Quincy passed away at 12:30 p.m. Thursday (December 13, 2018) in Sunset Home. Born August 31, 1931 in Barry, IL, Mary Lou was the daughter of Robert and Lizzy Jackson Potter. She married Richard J. Nelson on July 10, 1954 in Quincy.

He preceded her in death on September 11, 1996. Mary Lou enjoyed quilting, fishing and being on the river with her husband. She was a devoted mother and homemaker who loved spending time with her daughter and her grandson.

Mary Lou was employed as a secretary for various companies in Quincy for several years until her retirement. Survivors include her daughter Sandra Schanz (Richard) of Quincy; a grandson Weston Jones of Apopka, FL; two step grandchildren Brady Schanz and Morgan Schanz both of Quincy; one brother John Potter (Marjorie) of Barry, IL and a sister Juanita Weger (Floyd) of Sullivan, IN. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Richard.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning 10:00 a.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and Tuesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Sunset Home or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
