Obituary for Gertrude “Trudy” Weitzel (Thompson) Gertrude L. “Trudy” (Thompson) Weitzel, 94, of Greensburg, formerly of North Huntingdon died Saturday June 2, 2018 in the Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. She was born November 17, 1923, in Pittsburgh a daughter of the late Arthur Carl and Margaret (Weir) Thompson. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a secretary for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity.

She was a member of the Women’s Circle of the Church and a member of the Eastern Star; and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Trudy graduated Valedictorian from Baldwin High School. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Weitzel and her step-mother Flora Thompson.

Surviving are two sons Jeffrey L. Weitzel and his fiancée, Linda Polesky, of Greensburg and Jerald Lloyd Weitzel and his wife, Jennifer Ann, of Matthews, NC; six grandchildren Jeffrey B. Weitzel and wife, Susan (Wiegand), of St. Louis, MO, Beth Moyer and husband, Andrew, of North Huntingdon, Stacey Laratonda and husband, Vince, of North Irwin, Blake Allan Weitzel and wife, Megan Frances, of Southern Pines, NC, Cassandra Marie Hildreth and husband, Walter Raymond, of Orlando, FL and Autumn Grace Weitzel, of Matthews, NC; five great grandchildren, Dylan Moyer and Angelina Moyer all of North Huntingdon, Cameron Laratonda, of North Irwin, Jackson Woodrow Weitzel, Scarlett Anne Weitzel both of Southern Pines, NC; a brother Walter “Buddy” Thompson and his wife, Dolores and several nieces and nephews and cousins. To honor Gertrude’s wishes there will be no viewing. A memorial service will held on July 10, 2018.
