Obituary for Glen Wayne Jaynes Rose Hill, VA/Kingsport, TN Glen Wayne Jaynes, 71, of Kingsport departed this life Saturday, June 30 surrounded by family after years of declining health and a long fight against cancer. Born and raised in Rose Hill, Virginia, Glen was the youngest child of White and Hazel Davis Jaynes. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Frank, Rob, Gene, M.S., Dave, and Jenis.
Glen is survived by his only sister, Velma Allen Garrison; caregiver and best friend Ettie Jaynes (Kingsport), daughter AnaLisa Jaynes “Tadpole” (Fall Branch) and her children: Briley, Bryce, Brynn, and Braxton; son Joshua Jaynes, his wife Christie, and their twin daughters, Mila and Olivia. Also surviving are cousins Dave Seale (wife Peggy) and Johnny Hines; beloved brother-in-law Dennie Cyfers; special friend Danny Napier; his faithful furry companion Zoey; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Glen had a great sense of humor and loved sharing jokes with his family and friends.
He never met a stranger. Glen had an amazing passion for life and believed in a hard day’s work. He loved his family more than anything and always put others before himself.
Glen and his kids had many adventures together. From squirrel hunting with Tadpole to helping her lay hardwood flooring, they were often up to something. Glen especially loved watching his son play sports and coached several of Josh’s teams.
He doted on his grandchildren and spent hours fishing with Briley, building and tinkering with Bryce, going to the park to feed ducks with Brynn, and playing chess with Braxton. Glen loved just being their “Poppy”. As his health declined, Glen’s greatest wish was to live to see his twin granddaughters born.
Mila and Olivia arrived May 5. Glen loved sports, especially baseball and Kentucky basketball. He played baseball throughout high school at Thomas Walker and for a short time as a student at LMU.
Glen was a farmer, builder, and a miner. He was particularly proud of the work he did on Jonesville Court House. He worked at Jericol Mining for 20 years.
Glen never encountered a job or project he wouldn’t tackle, and there were few he couldn’t “lick”. The Jaynes family would like to thank Leanne and Mousa Naseri for their compassionate care and friendship to Glen for many years. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm at Silver Leaf Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 3.
Funeral services begin at 2pm at the church. Burial will follow at Silver Leaf Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bryce Wilson, Melvin Jaynes, Harold Jaynes, Jared Cyfers, Lawrence Hensley Jr., and Don Jaynes.
