Harriett’s Obituary Harriett L. (Mock) Church, age 95 and a lifelong resident of the Elwood community, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital following a brief illness and a long, well-lived life. She was born August 7, 1923 in rural Elwood, the daughter of Chester and Leona (Roach) Mock. Harriett graduated from Summitville High School in 1941.

She married Joe D. Church on September 13, 1946, and they shared over 52 years of marriage together before his passing in 1998. Harriett was a homemaker and farmwife most of her life, and she worked at Delco Remy in Anderson for 9 years until retiring in 1953. She also formerly worked at Dr. Anita Hanson’s medical office in Elwood for several years.

Harriett was a member of the Frankton Christian Church and over the last few years attended the First United Methodist Church in Elwood with her family. Harriett was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Swayzee (formerly Elwood), and she formerly bowled on a regular basis in several local bowling leagues. She was a member of the Red Corner Home Economics Club, and enjoyed playing bridge with good friends for many years.

Harriett also enjoyed ceramics, caring for livestock on their family farm, vegetable gardening, and spending time with her beloved dog, “Ava”. Harriett’s passing leaves a legacy of family and special memories that will never be forgotten. Harriett’s family legacy includes her son, Kevin (wife Sharon) Church of Elwood; devoted daughter-in-law, Pam Church of Elwood; 6 grandchildren, Megan Church, Adam Church (fiance’ Hope Fred), Laura (husband Zach) Guest, Angela Church (fiancé Josiah South), Kyle Church (fiancé Samantha Ousley), and Benjamin Church; a great-granddaughter expected in July 2019; sister-in-law, Lornell Mock of Anderson; two nephews, Jim (wife Terrye) Mock and Don (wife Deb) Mock; special friends, Tom and Becky Moser, Ted and Debbie Moser, and John and Beth Moser and their families.

Also surviving are special friends, Katie, K.J., and Jim Dawson and special friends John and Laura Collier. Harriett was preceded in death by both her parents; step-mother, Hester Mock; son, Dr. Dennis L. Church in 2015; grandson, Logan M. Church in 2004; brother, Meredith E. Mock; and close friends, Emerson and Christine Moser. A funeral service celebrating Harriett’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev.

Doug Bohall of the First United Methodist Church and members of Harriett’s family officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
