Herbert Edward Lindtveit, Jr., 46, of Methuen, died unexpectedly on February 20, 2019 at Holy Family Hospital. Born in Wheaton, Illinois on August 9, 1972, son of Herbert Edward Lindtveit, Sr. and Lynn Lindtveit (Dorn), he was raised in Centerport, N.Y. He attended Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, N.Y. It’s where he met Erin Dempsey, falling in love with his lifelong partner at 17 on an exchange student trip to Germany.

After graduating in 1990, he was accepted to Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., joining a chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and graduating in 1994 with a degree in accounting. He spent one year as a bank teller before embarking on his true calling: brewing beer. He spent much of his career honing his craft for the Boston Beer Works chain, then found his professional home at Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers in Framingham.

As a head brewer and glue guy, Herb was the jack-of-all-trades that kept the craft brewery humming as it grew from a small facility to a brewery, beer hall and kitchen on Clinton Street in Framingham. But the greatest accomplishment of Herb’s life was building his family with Erin. Herb and Erin were married on June 21, 1997 in Stony Brook, N.Y.

He is survived by Erin, Herbie (20), Sarah (17), Emily (13), and Mary (10). His happiest place was vacationing with his family in the town of Wellfleet on Cape Cod. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Liv Lindtveit of Methuen, Lynn Lindtveit of Methuen, Lindy and Carol Lindtveit of New Bern, N.C., Erik Lindtveit of Maryland, Gerard and Carol Dempsey of Greenlawn, N.Y., Anne and Denis Caralis (Jack, Niove) of Astoria, N.Y., Michael and Cindy Dempsey (Max, Liam) of Greenlawn, N.Y. Many cousins, aunts, uncles, loved ones, friends, colleagues and brewing contemporaries will miss Herb dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Herb’s wake to be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. His funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. at First Church Congregational, 26 Pleasant Street, Methuen. Everyone, please meet at church.
