Herman’s Obituary Rome- Herman R. Kirk, 79, of Camelot Village passed away on January 16, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born in West Leyden on February 18, 1939, a son of Clarence and Edith Fey Kirk. He grew up on Quaker Hill on the family farm in the Town of Ava, attended West Leyden School and graduated from Holland Patent High School.

He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1965. He married Janet Pratt on July 7, 1962 at St. Joseph’s Church, Lee Center. Herman was employed as a welder for Pettibone, Rome and later on a bus driver for Birnie Bus.

Herman was a member of Point Rock Fish & Game Club, Lee Legion, Post 1794 and a board member of the NYS Old Tyme Fiddler’s Association. He greatly enjoyed playing the fiddle. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Janet, of 56 years; children, Darlene and Richard Sturgeon, Holland Patent, Pauline and Dennis Williamson, West Leyden, Russell and Tina Kirk, Rome, Christine O’Connor, Rome and Scharlena and Brian, New York Mills; twelve grandchildren; six great grand children; also surviving are good friends, Dick Sturgeon and Bob Roman; brothers, David and Charlene Kirk, Rome and Charles Kirk, Clinton; sisters, Shirley Kirk, Rome and Linda Darling, Taberg. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Carl and Paul Kirk and a sister Elizabeth Kirk. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 7 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, 301 Post Street, Boonville.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. prior to the service. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to NYS Old Tyme Fiddler’s Association, PO Box 24, Redfield, NY 13437.
