Hildegard Brand Doliwa October 27, 1924 ~ March 28, 2019 Hilde (94) passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019. She was born in Krentruperhagen, Germany to Ernst and Martha Brand on October 27, 1924. She married her sweetheart, Jan Doliwa in Höxter Germany on August 3, 1945.

In 1951, Hilde and her young family immigrated to the United States where they worked on a farm in Smithfield. After living several years in Cache Valley, she and her family moved to Washington Terrace and then to Riverdale. Hilde grew up working on a farm and loved the outdoors.

She worked hard raising her children and often tended her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Uno and other games with her grandchildren and always let them win. Along with taking care of her family, she spent many years working as a waitress at the Lion’s Den.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. Everything she did revolved around caring for her husband, four children and grandchildren. She loved cooking, baking and crocheting stockings, washcloths and baby clothes.

She loved serving everyone in her home, including her dogs. She never let any of her family leave without a full belly and a bag of treats. We will miss her German pancakes, apfelkuchen, zucchini bread, spaghetti and her delicious turkey.

She made and hosted the entire Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for years and years. Hilde was proud of her heritage and shared German traditions with her family. Many of her grandchildren referred to her as Oma and she always wrote special birthday and Christmas cards in German and English.

She is survived by her children: Henry (Pat) Doliwa, Heidi (Byron) Allen; Son-in-law, Dan (Lannis) Pugmire; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Elisabeth Helweg (Detmold, Germany). She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bernard Doliwa; and daughter, Diane Pugmire. The family would like to express special thanks to Hilde’s home healthcare nurse, Diana; the entire staff of Mountain Ridge Assisted Living; IHC hospice team; the Skyline Branch; and neighbors who have been so helpful in taking care of Hilde.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.
