Obituary for Ingeborg Eleanor Etter In Loving Memory Ingeborg Eleanor Vera Sholtz Etter April 20, 1928-June 29, 2018 Ingeborg Etter, known as Susan, was born in Gleiwitz, Germany on April 20, 1928 to Rudolph and Marta Scholz. She was the oldest of three daughters. She attended various schools in Eastern Europe, and upon graduation obtained a job as a translator for the US government, where she met her husband, Arthur Etter, who was an enlisted man in the US Army.
They fell in love and were married March 17th, 1949. Shortly, after being married, Art was transferred back stateside, and they settled in Kingsport, Tennessee where their first child, Michael, was born in 1950. In 1952, they had moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where their 2nd child, Linda was born.
They lived in a year in Japan with the two children and then were transferred to Ft. Bragg, NC, and finally to Atlanta, where they bought their first home. Shortly after moving into their new home, son, David, was born (1956) and daughter, Karen, was born (1958).
Susan began her working career in 1964-1965, when Art became ill. Up until that time, she was a stay at home mom. She worked for Metropolitan Insurance Co., Dean Webber, Merrill Lynch, and then Coca Cola Bottling in the accounting department, from where she retired.
She went back to school and obtained her bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Georgia State University. She was also co-owner of Etter Trucking. She loved to travel and enjoyed her home and enjoyed gardening until she became unable to live alone.
She moved to Brighton Gardens in Dunwoody in 2010 where she lived until she passed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Antoine Etter and great grandson, Tre Chatham. She is survived by Michael Etter (wife Linda) Linda Hargis (husband Tom), David Etter (wife Jackie), and Karen Lee (daughter), 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
