Obituary for Irene Dassel Irene Elizabeth Dassel, 95, of Evansville, passed away, Monday, September 10, 2018, at West River Health Campus. She was born March 19, 1923, to the late Geneieve and Jacob Ziliak. Irene was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral since 1950.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting afghans and sweaters. She was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. She was also a member of Fendrich, Helfrich, and Howell Par 3 golf courses.
One of her accomplishments was being able to hit two holes in one. She also bowled for 41 years, she traveled to and participated in 27 National Tournaments, 40 years in the Pin Classic and is in the Bowling Hall of Fame. She loved to travel all around the USA, Europe, and Canada.
Irene is survived by her sons, Donald Dassel and Daryl (Susan) Dassel; daughter in law, Marlene Dassel; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; sisters in law, Virginia (Carl) Wallace, Ethelene Greubel and Barbara Dassel; brother in law, Herb Dassel; numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years, Francis Dassel; son, Larry Dassel; daughter in law, Janice Dassel; brothers, Tommy (Hildie), Cletus (Earnestine), Alvin (Esther), and Jim (Betty) Ziliak; sisters, Mary (Ray), Helen (George), and Ermalinda; brothers in law, Melvin Dassel and Frank Greubel; and sister in law, Joann Dassel. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave.
, Evansville, a memorial service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 14, 2018, at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave. , with Father Godfrey Mullen, officiating. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
