Irene E. Eggimann, 97, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Lutheran Home. She was born February 17, 1922 in Gordonville, Missouri to Fred G. and Ida S. (Gluckshertz) Nischwitz. Irene and John W. Eggimann were married November 5, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville.

He preceded her in death February 27, 2011. Irene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church as well as the Trinity Ladies Aid. She worked for Bell Telephone in her early years.

Irene was an Exchangette and volunteered at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was active in the community as a girl scout leader and volunteer for the Otahki Girl Scout Council for many years. Survivors include her son, Brad L. (Shari) Eggimann of Cape Girardeau; sister-in-laws, Ruth Nischwitz of Gordonville and Carolyn Francis; three grandchildren, Ty (Kathyrn) Eggimann of O’Fallon, Missouri, Kylie (Floyd) Scholz of Altenburg, Missouri and Jamie Ware of Cape Girardeau; 5 great-grandsons and many beloved nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jayne Ware; brother, Harvey Nischwitz; sisters, Eleanor Jones and Leona Keller.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Maske officiating.

Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Irene E. Eggimann please visit our Sympathy Store.
