IRENE M. GOODING Irene M. Gooding, 84, of Quincy, passed away at 1:40 am Wednesday (November 14, 2018) in Blessing Hospital. Born February 15, 1934 in Adams County near Golden, Illinois, Irene was the daughter of Walter and Edith Hawk Neastea. She married Everett Gooding Jr. on June 1, 1952 in Golden, Illinois.

He survives. Irene was a 1952 graduate of Golden High School and was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church and Gem Unit of Home Extension. She enjoyed listening to music, cooking, doing crafts with her husband and especially loved crocheting.

Irene was a homemaker devoted to her family. Irene was employed as as sales clerk at JC Penny for 17 years until her retirement. Survivors include her husband Everett; a son, Roger Gooding and his wife Tina of Quincy; two grandchildren, Robin Mathews and her husband Mike and Danielle Terstriep and her husband Jake both of Quincy; four great grandchildren, Madison and Emma Mathews; Gabe and Gwen Terstriep all of Quincy; a brother, Wendell Neastea and his wife Shelia of Quincy; two sisters, Janice Noble of Mt.

Sterling and Judy Padgett and her husband Denny of Clayton, IL. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Cecil Neastea; two sisters, Evelyn Bosworth and Darlene Rippel.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 3:00 until 6:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Monday morning 10:00 a.m. in Greenmount Cemetery with Frank Schwirtz officiating. It was Irene’s wishes that memorials be made to the great grandchildren’s College Education Fund.

Arrangements are in the care of the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
