Obituary for Jack Alfred Dayvault Mr. Jack Alfred Dayvault, 88, of Concord, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Tucker Hospice House. A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Calvary Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Debbie Frye.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 prior to the service in the church parlor. Jack was born on September 29, 1930 in Landis, NC to the late Chester Dayvault and Della Mae Roberts Dayvault. Jack was a master’s graduate from N.C. State in textile chemistry and worked for 32 years at Celanese in Corporation in research and development.

In 1952 he married his high school sweet-heart. At that time, they began traveling and enjoyed exploring many states and countries through the years. In 1973 they moved from Charlotte to Concord, and Jack became an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Jack was very involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s life, helping them explore the world around them. He enjoyed beekeeping and gardening, becoming legendary in the family for his corn on the cob. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha Kimball Dayvault; daughters, Jan Smith and husband Harold, of Concord, Kay Ormand and husband John, of Linville Falls; sister, Joyce Williams of Deep Gap; grandchildren, Ashley Shull and husband Johnny, Charles K. Smith and wife Lydia, Cory D. Smith and wife Lauren, Meredith Smith, Sarah Ormand and fiancé John Michael Canupp, Sharon Ormand; great-granddaughter, Kelcey Shull.
