Martin, 88, of Scobey passed away March 23, 2018 in Billings from a stroke with complications.

A family service was held in Billings. James A. Martin was born in Scobey March 22, 1930 to Maude Amanda Sherry and Prosper James Martin. On October 16, 1955, he married Margaret Ann Haugerud in Scobey.

From November of 1951 to September of 1953 Jim was a U.S. Army Sgt. in the Korean War (Seoul, Korea), and in Army Reserves for six years. He was a recipient of the Korean Services medal with three bronze service stars; United Nations service medal; and National Defense service medal.

For fourteen years, Jim was a partsman at Erickstein Motors, and later an owner at DC Lanes. He spent many years as a Scobey School employee as bus mechanic, bus driver, and custodian. Until his retirement at age 83, Jim was a farm worker and at Cahill Seeds for eleven years.

He was active in the community; a Scobey Alderman for 4 years, mayor for 2 years, in American Legion for 65 years, treasurer of the Scobey Golf Course for many years, and a member of the United Methodist Church. In the 1960’s he was active in the softball fields, enjoyed camping most weekends and in his earlier years, fishing, hunting, golfing, and playing darts. Survivors include Jim’s wife of over 62 years, son, Phillip (Jasmin) of Woodland & McArthur, California; one granddaughter and two great grandsons; sisters-in-law Thelma Willert of Fall City, WA; Lorraine (Maren) Anderson and Betty Martin of Billings, and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother; as well as his mother and father in-law and many good friends over the years.
