Duane’s Obituary Dewey Manternach’s mind and spirit left us on Friday, September 28th and his body followed at 10PM on Sunday, September 30th. Duane Brian Manternach (Dewey) was born December 9, 1958 in Scobey, MT to Dale and Lois Manternach. He was raised on the family farm 7 miles south of Scobey with his siblings.

Their parents instilled in them the importance of hard work and dedication to the Lord. After graduating from high school in 1977, he worked on the Hellickson farm. Dewey married the love of his life Jeanette Holley on May 12, 1984 and together they raised 9 children.

He drove truck from 1986 until 1995 when he began his career at Nemont. In 2007, he accepted the position of Local Area Manager in Worden and he and his family moved to Ballantine. Dewey positively impacted both communities he lived in.

He served on the Daniels County Fair Board and was instrumental in the annual Big Roar and the demolition derby. Dewey’s love of hunting, fishing, and camping combined with his passion to serve led him to become the Scoutmaster of Troop 298. In Worden, he found a home at Bethlehem Congregational Church where he served as a deacon.

Above all else, Dewey’s best trait was his loving character. His big heart and generosity is what drove Jeanette and him to open their home and lives to over 80 foster children. His family was always in awe of the number of phone calls he received.

He had unlimited minutes and unlimited friends. Dewey made friendships that lasted a lifetime. Dewey never turned down a game of cards, a cold beer, or a good laugh.

He died at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by mother Lois, brothers Donavon and Lee, and brother-in-law Greg Larson. He is survived by father Dale (Alice), siblings Ingrid Larson, Dallas Manternach (Karen), Claire Manternach, and Mary Bekkers (Brian); best friend and wife of 33 years Jeanette; children Aubrey Workman (Chris), Randi Handran (Chauncy), Tanner Manternach (Jill Baker), Trevor Manternach (Amanda), Valen, Lacey, Cappy, Terra, and Dylan.

He is also survived by grandchildren Shawnee, Meeno, Milo, Dava, Trin, Nev, Rayne, Eli, and Joshua. To his family, friends, and community. We hope that you know how much he loved you.
