Geir Christian Stoner May 12, 1990 – January 18, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card A public services for Geir Stoner will be 2PM Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Plentywood Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Taylor officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date. Geir Christian Stoner, son of Kirk and Mari Stoner, was delivered into this world by his Grandfather Gaylen Stoner on May 12th, 1990.
He was raised in Plentywood and attended school there and in Fargo. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 2008. He attended Carroll College in Helena for a year, but was not ready for college.
He moved back to Plentywood where he worked for Border Steel. He enjoyed his years there. Geir was a bright, gregarious young man who never forgot a face or good story and was well known for his outgoing nature and gift of gab.
Of the many things he learned at Border Steel the important one was that he did not want to do manual work for the rest of his life. His love of music and drumming took him to Bozeman where he entered the music department and later the economics department. He did DJ jobs on the side and started working for a sound company, Jereco Studios, while in college and during summers.
This became his life and one at which he was accomplished. While at Bozeman he became a serious Bobcat fan, member of the marching band, and frequent guest at the Ueland tailgate gatherings where his cooking skills were put to good use. All who knew him were also aware of his soft heart.
His death leaves many relatives and friends with an emotional hole in their hearts that will be hard to repair. We will miss his big bear hugs, his astute political commentary, his impressive knowledge of music history and his amazing bar-b-q that took 48 hours of loving attention to prepare. We have to realize the pain that he suffered in silence and respect his decision.
Like so many of us, his path in life was a little crooked with numerous bumps in the road but his last years seemed as though he had found the smooth highway into the future. Unfortunately, a sudden bump that could not be overcome took him from us. For all of us who are troubled from time to time it is important to remember that there are helping hands for you if you just reach your hand out.
Geir is survived by his parents, Kirk and Mari Stoner, sister Chelsea Stoner and her husband Garth Spiller and their children Signe and Anderson, brother Chase Stoner and his wife Kayla and their son Callen, Grandmother Doris Stoner of Billings and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by infant sister Catherine Stoner, Grandfather Gaylen Stoner, Grandfather and Grandmother Phil and Elaine Marsh, Great Grandparents Ray and Mabel Stoner, and favorite Great Uncle and Aunt Vernon and Helen Stoner. Memorial donations can be made in Geir’s name at the Rocky Mountain Bank of Plentywood that will be directed to an MSU music scholarship fund in memory of Geir Stoner or to the donor’s choice.
