Marilyn was a bright student and spent her senior year at the Peerless School. While there, she met John (Jack) Myron Slaughter, a young handsome farmer who was learning to be a mechanic. On May 19, 2019, Marilyn was reunited with her husband Jack, daughter Jackie and her parents, just inside the gate.

Marilyn has six siblings: Chet, Denny, Eddie, Glen, Marita, and baby Brooks; four daughters: Donna, Annie, Jackie, and Linda; 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; and many life long friends.
