Carol (89) was born to Fred and Ethel Walker of Highwood, MT. She was the fourth of ten children. She grew up in Highwood and graduated from there in 1947.

She then went on to attend and graduate from Northern Montana College in Havre. It was there she met her husband Clifford. Soon after they were married they moved to begin their lives together operating Cliff’s family farm in the Medicine Lake area.

For a number of years they would return to Highwood in the winter where Cliff worked for his father-in-law. They later added a feedlot to their farming operation. In the years to come their family grew to include seven children.

Carol’s time was filled with helping Cliff and raising their children. She loved spending time outside in her yard and always had a large garden and beautiful flower beds. Carol shepherded her children through many years of 4-H projects, sports, music lessons, and various church and school activities.

With Cliff’s untimely death Carol became the sole decision maker, with children aged 2-17. Seeing our Mom stay so strong assured us that we were going to make it, we were going to be okay. She also became a bookkeeper at the Dagmar Station, was a substitute mail carrier, and drove a bus to the Eastmont Training Center in Glendive.

In 1978 Carol returned to Highwood to spend time near her mother and other family members. It was here she also owned and managed the Country Store & Restaurant for 3 years. She loved to travel with her children around the US and went on a trip to South Africa.

She also loved camping in the Highwood Mountains. Independence was important to her, and she encouraged and supported all of her children to further their education. She was devoted to Ann, and cared for her as long as she was able.

She was a confirmed member of the Nathanael Lutheran Church, a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star, was active in Senior Citizens, and belonged to various women’s clubs through the years. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford, daughter Amy Gessaman, and sisters Evelyne, Lucille, and Bernadine. She is survived by children Gary, Cindy (Don) Deubner, Gail (Dave) Nelson, Ann, Neal (Audrey) and Tammy (Al Weinberg).

Surviving grandchildren are Eron, Charity, Jenny, Pat, Andy, Amanda, Chris, Sandi, Scott, Ben, Todd, and multiple great grandchildren. Carol is also survived by siblings Vivian, Fred, Sid, Ralph, Bettie, and Bonnie.
