Marian was born July 10, 1927, in Scobey to Michael and Anna (Kindzerski) Drapak. Her family moved to Chicago when she was a young child.

Cousin Joe Fedorchuk became part of the Drapak family while the two were growing up. Marian graduated from John Marshall High School in Chicago in 1945 and furthered her education at De Paul University. She met Albert Bjarko during a visit with family in Scobey.

They were married on October 12, 1952, at Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Chicago and returned to Montana where she and Albert farmed northeast of Peerless. They had five children and lived in Scobey during the school months. Marian was a homemaker and community volunteer during the early years of her marriage.

She taught church CCD classes for 23 years, served as president of the Girl Scout Council and VFW Auxiliary, and worked with the Daniels County Bicentennial Committee in 1976 as the county celebrated the nation’s 200th birthday. She also volunteered with the county museum association and learned the craft of Ukrainian egg painting from her mother. When her children were older, Marian went to work for Action for Eastern Montana and traveled throughout the state.

From 1991 to 1999 she owned and operated a gift and clothing store named Crystal Tree Gallery on Scobey’s Main Street. In retirement, she and Albert enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Mexico and Europe, along with RV fishing trips. They were avid followers of their grandchildren’s sports events.

Marian also was active with Red Hats Society. Albert preceded her in death in 1998. Her brother Teddy died in childhood.

She is survived by five children: Ann (Ron) Roberts of Scobey, Michael (JoAn) Bjarko of Peerless, Mary Jo (Greg) Roberts of Terry, Allison (Danny) Wang of Scobey, and Melissa (Kirby) Halvorson of Sidney; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at St. Philip Bonitus Catholic Church in Scobey.
