Obituary for James Cassidy Walsh James Cassidy Walsh, 93, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 1, 1925 in Beloit, WI, the son of Arthur and Viola (Cassidy) Walsh. James was a 1943 graduate of Beloit High School.

James enlisted in the U.S. Navy and went to Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Great Lakes, IL on November 20, 1944. He said that he couldn’t enlist until the cabbage was harvested on the farm. Jim was then sent to Bainbridge Naval training Station in Bainbridge, Maryland.

He was enrolled in a 16 week Quarter Master School. After week 14, however, Jim was sent to Williams College in Williamstown, MA for officers training school. From Williams College James was sent to Brown University in Providence, RI.

James returned to Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Illinois, where he was discharged on June 17, 1946. He went on to study at the University of Wisconsin Madison where he just so happened to graduate three years later on June 17, 1949. He married Mina Eloise Reeder on July 15, 1950 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Janesville, WI.

She predeceased him on January 20, 2018. James was the owner/CEO of the Century Old Walsh Family Farm. He was a former volunteer fireman for the Town of Turtle Fire Department.

James was a former member of the Rock County Fair Board. He was a member of the WI Livestock Producers Hall of Fame, WI Pork Producers Hall of Fame, and the WI State Fair Breeders Hall of Fame. James was also a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, St. Thomas Catholic Church and a former member of the Holy Name Society.

James was a former president and board member of the National Hampshire Swine Registry. Survivors include his children, James (Jenny) Walsh, Linda (Gary) Polglaze, Thomas (Dawn Farrell) Walsh, John (Jamie) Walsh, Teresa (Jeff) Freitag, William (Lora) Walsh, and Mary (Mark) Martin; grandchildren, Aaron (Danielle) Walsh, Jacob Walsh, Elise Polglaze, Lauren (Robby) Weyker, Katie (Micah) Hanson, and Drew Freitag; great grandchild, Saoirse Weyker. He was predeceased by his parents and grandson Michael Walsh.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for James will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, 824 E. Grand Ave, Beloit, WI. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 10:15 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Tuesday in the church.

Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
