Obituary for Shirley I. Tester Shirley Irene Tester, 88, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Riverside Terrace. She was born on December 30, 1929 in Watertown, WI, the daughter of Percy and Irene (Buske) Wendt. Shirley was a 1946 graduate of Johnson’s Creek High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Carroll College, Waukesha in 1950.

Following graduation, she taught in New Glarus and Whitewater. She married Erwin “Bud” Tester on June 10, 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Watertown, WI. After raising her children, Shirley returned to teaching in Beloit, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Throughout her lifetime, she has always been active in the church, teaching confirmation, Sunday School and Bible School for many years as well as teaching adult bible classes. She served as president of the Women of the Church, was a member of Shalom Circle, and volunteered her time and skills often.

Shirley was also a member of Intermediate Women serving as its president and secretary and on various committees such as Thursday Club and Beloit Area Retired Educator’s Association. She loved to play bridge, belonged to several clubs, crossword puzzles, stitching quilts, reading and walking. After her retirement, she took up golf and really enjoyed it.

Shirley and her husband also enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, and Europe. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Bud; children, Thomas (Nancy) Tester of Princeton, IL, David (Jackie) Tester of Marietta, GA, and Jane (Jon) Lang of South Beloit, IL; grandchildren, Kelly (Jamie) Saeli of Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Gregory (Jill) Tester of Madison, WI, Ashley (Joe) Neubert of Washington D.C. and Marc Tester of Acworth, GA, Amy (Jon) Smith, and Michael Lang of South Beloit, IL; seven great grandchild; sister, Janet (Ted) DeGarmo of Kokomo, IN; brother-in-law, Phillip Krueger of Watertown, WI; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents; grandchild, Brian Tester; sister, Sharon Krueger; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and John Koser; and nephew, Kurt Koser.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 749 Bluff St., Beloit, WI, with Pastor Tony Dusso officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday before the service in the church.
