James’ Obituary James Gary Walters, age 77, of Arcadia, FL, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in Sebring, FL. Known to his family and friends as “Gary” and “Jim”, was born in Paragould, Arkansas September 3, 1941. He moved to Desoto County twenty years ago from Flint, Michigan.

He retired from the Buick Division of General Motors. He was a very good “singer of songs”, singing at karaoke events whenever possible. Jim enjoyed playing darts, fishing, hunting, and family picnics.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, He was a member of the Arcadia Moose Lodge, the AMVETS, American Legion, and the Arcadia Eagles Lodge. He was of the Protestant faith. Survivors are his beloved wife, Joyce A. Walters, Arcadia, FL, his three sons, Kevin Walters, Greensboro, SC, Tracy (Courtney) Walters, Houston, Texas, Oden “Rick” (Mandy) Costello, Flint, Michigan, four daughters, Kim Walters, Standish, Michigan, Tina Walters South, Houston, Texas, Kim Pratt (friend Terry Bowman), Hallandale, FL, Brenda (Buck) Partin, Flint, Michigan, and 54 grand-great-great grandchildren and four on the way.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, James Walters, a brother, Hafford Walters, a sister, Ella Mae Comstock, and a daughter, Tina Hargrave. Visitation will be conducted from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, FL.

A “Celebration of Life” for Gary will be at 7:00pm on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the chapel, with Pastor Steve Griffin officiating. The DeSoto Honor Guard will render military honors at 6:00pm. Inurnment will be in Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL at a later date.
