After a courageous battle with a Glioblastoma Brain Tumor James H. Mort Jr., 71, recently of Liberty Park, The Villages, FL passed peacefully from this life on April 19th, 2018 while at the Cornerstone Hospice House in The Villages, FL. James (Jim) was born on February 20, 1947 in Huntingdon, PA. Son of the late James H. and Edith Mort Sr. of Lorain, Ohio, Jim grew up in Vermilion and Lorain, OH.

Following his discharge from the Army, Jim worked for the Washington Gas Light Company, in Washington D.C. While working for the Washington Gas Light Company he became the President of the International Union of Gas Workers IUGW from 1992-1996. He served as President of Teamster’s Local #96 from 1996-2000.
Jim was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Summerfield, FL. He was a former member of St. John Catholic Church of Westminster, MD, and a member of Westminster Knights of Columbus Council 1393. He was a member of St. Paul The First Hermit Council #14222 of Summerfield, FL.
He was a member of VFW Post 467, and Disabled American Veterans, Old Glory Chapter #22 Westminster MD and the American Legion Post 347, Lady Lake FL. Jim is survived by his loving wife Christine (Novick), daughter Anastasia Pearson (John) of Churchton, MD and son, Francis C. Mort, (Nicole) of Hanover, PA. In addition he is survived by stepchildren, Julia Novick Jaspert (Julian), Rosemary Novick Shawkey (Rick ) Donna Novick Giordano, Steven J. Novick (Maria), Mark C. Novick, (Tammy).
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brother Ronald Eichelberger (Barbara), sister Judith Rock (George), stepsisters, Linda Rayl, Darlene Miller (William), Candice Villa, Jennifer Jewell Mergen, 4 nieces and 1 great-nephew. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Helene F. Mort. Family will receive friends at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster MD, Tuesday, April 24th, from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm.
A Christian wake service and time of sharing will be held at 7:00pm followed by the praying of the rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster MD, Wednesday, April 25th, at 10:00am. Immediately following the service a reception will be held at The Portico at St. John.
A funeral procession will leave at 12:30 p.m. for interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave. Silver Spring, MD 20906.
