James J. Maffett, 94, of Jersey Shore, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, 2018, at the Valley View Nursing Center. Born May 20, 1924, in Avis, Pa.

, he was the son of James Maffett and the former Chiarina Visco. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, the former Florence M. Zinck, Feb. 1, 2009.

They were united in marriage July 11, 1944, in the Church of Saint Luke in Jersey Shore. Also preceding him in death was 2 grandsons, Victor Steinbacher and Kasey Kemmerer; infant son; brother, Frank; and a sister, Mildred. Earlier in his life he was employed by the Penna Railroad for 12 years and later retired from the Jersey Shore Steel Co. after 32 years of service.

He was a member of the Church of Saint Luke and a life member of the Sons of Italy. Jim loved gardening and fishing. He is survived by 2 sons, James F. (Virginia) Maffett, of Antes Fort, and David L. (Amy) Maffett, of Linden; 2 daughters, Victoria J. Lundy, of Kernersville, N.C., and Carrie A. Greevy, of New Columbia; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 4 stepgrandchildren; and 8 stepgreat-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 118 Kendall Ave. , Jersey Shore.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening, Sept. 21, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. He will be laid to rest in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
