James Pudenz, age 82, of Carroll, died Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2019 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt.
Carmel. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder.
Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Mass Servers will be Michael Kasperbauer and Hans Kraus.
Music will be by Marcy Anderson and Jake Gute. Lectors for the funeral mass will be: Katie Toms, Leah DeFreece, and Bekah Pudenz. Gift Bearers will be: James Pudenz, Oliver Pudenz, Hannah Clausen, Mariah Clausen, Addison DeFreece, Colby Pudenz, Cierra Pudenz, Cailyn Pudenz, Myles Pudenz, Emma Pudenz, Rebecca Connor, Eleanor Coughlin, Thomas Coughlin, and Vincent Coughlin.
Eucharistic Ministers will be Greg Tigges and Don Masching. Casket Bearers will be: Jeremy Behrens, Tyler Behrens, Sam Pudenz, Nick Tigges, Joel Pudenz, Christopher Pudenz, Frank Tigges, Jackson Tigges, Jameson DeFreece, and Carter Pudenz. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 12-12:45 p.m. on Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the church for a later designation.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Jim’s family at www. sharpfuneral.com. Born on June 4, 1936 at Carroll, Iowa, James was the son of Frank and Mayme (Wiederin) Pudenz.
Jim attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and graduated in 1954. Jim served in the United States Army from 1955-1957 and following his honorable discharge returned to the Carroll area.
Jim was united in marriage to Marilyn Masching on August 22, 1959 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. To this union were 8 children.
Jim and Mary made their home north of Carroll where he was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer. Mary passed away in 2011 and on March 2, 2013, Jim married Mary Ann (Boje) Boeckman at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Family was most important to Jim; he loved going to his grandchildren’s activities, and family events; especially the annual family trip to Lake Okoboji.
Jim was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and traveling with his family. Jim is survived by his wife Mary Ann Pudenz of Carroll; his children: Cheryl Onken and her husband Tracy of Carroll, Doug Pudenz and his wife DeAnn of Carroll, Joni Tigges and her husband Greg of DeWitt, Kay DeFreece and her husband Dan of Nebraska, City, NE, Greg Pudenz and his wife Daphne of Carroll, Curt Pudenz and his wife Jill of Carroll, Renee Coughlin and her husband Matt of Council Bluffs, and Jay Pudenz and his wife Elizabeth of Des Moines; his step-children: Bob (Theresa) Boeckman of Breda, Kim Bauman of Spencer, Kristy McDermott and fiancé John Hoffert of Ankeny, Tom (Kris) Boeckman of Carroll and Tim Boeckman of Johnston; 28 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; his sisters: Wilma Boes of Carroll, Edna Knobbe of Rose Creek, MN and Rita (John) Hoebing of Columbus, NE; his brother, Richard (Bea) Pudenz of Carroll; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Bernice Pudenz of Carroll, Jean Pudenz of Des Moines, Edna Ludwig of Carroll, Don Masching of Breda, Lois (Chuck) Neumayer of Carroll, Jim (Joyce) Masching of Carroll, Donald Wieland of Carroll, Paul Wieland of Carroll, Betty Masching of Carroll, Doris Rayer of Omaha; Sara (Mike) Casey of Plano, TX, Tom (Shirley) Boje of Omaha and Jack (Mary) Boje of Albuquerque, NM; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marilyn “Mary” Pudenz; his sisters: Julitta O’Tool and Dorothy O’Tool; and his brothers: Wilbur Pudenz, Leonard Pudenz, LeRoy Pudenz, Herbert Pudenz, Edwin Pudenz, and a brother Joseph in infancy.
