James Raymond “Ray” Sherlin, 59, of Asheville passed away peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. Born on February 1, 1959 in Asheville, he was a son of the late Kenneth Anderson Sherlin Jr., and Claudia Martin Sherlin. He was a graduate of Asheville High School class of 1976 and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was the owner of Sherlin’s Auto. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Ronald “Ronnie” Sherlin and Donald “Donnie” Sherlin. Surviving are his spouse of 35 years, Tamara Bierer Sherlin; children: Michael Rice of Asheville, Jennifer Phillips and her spouse, Mark, of Andrews, and Kim Grant and her spouse, Travis, of Fairview; Siblings, Ken Sherlin and his spouse, Tonia, of Asheville, Charles Sherlin of Asheville, and Kay Robbins and her spouse, Jerry, of Calhoun, GA; eight grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

There will be a private family service at a later date.
