Janie Bennett Myer, 103, of 3477 Birch Creek Rd Ringgold, VA departed this life Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Chatham Health & Rehab after a decline in health for several years. Janie was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on December 30, 1915 a daughter of the late William Hartwell Bennett and Martha Dodson Bennett. Janie worked for Thalhimers Department Store and was a homemaker.

She was a member and past Deacon of Kentuck Baptist Church. She married Edward Sanford Myer, who died on April 12, 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ann Thornton, Jackie M. Yates (Lyle), five grandchildren, Sherry T. Miller, Darryl T. Patterson, Kathy Y. Collins (Timothy), Paul M. Yates (Angie), Tommy Kemp Thornton, Jr. (Sharon), eleven great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Tommy Kemp Thornton, Sr., three sisters, Mary Haynes, Ruby Ferguson, Dorothy Dyer, six brothers, Walter, Percy, Rodger, Horace, Lacy, and Ernest Bennett. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Kentuck Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Allen Mahan.

Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the Church and at the residence at other times. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is serving the Myer family.
