Jean A. Stark August 09, 1927 – March 01, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Jean Stark, 91, Lake Mills, WI and Mesa, AZ, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2019. She was born in Flasher, ND, to the late Levi and Brenda (Partridge) Leonard on August 9, 1927. Her family moved to Mandan, ND when she was two years old.

She grew up in Mandan and on June 24, 1948 she married Ervin Stark in Portland, OR but settled back in Mandan to run Ervin’s barbershop. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2002. Jean worked for Wells Fargo Banking Corp.

for 25 years and retired in 1985, receiving many awards and promotions. In 1980 she and Erv moved to Fargo, ND so that she could continue her career. Before working for Wells Fargo, Jean worked at City Hall and the Dakota Clinic, both in Bismarck, ND.

Jean was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Mandan and most recently a member of the Lake Mills United Methodist church. She was always active with her church attending bible study groups, baking for events, and helping out in the office or being the treasurer and bookkeeping. She was a member of Queen Anne’s Chapter of the Eastern Star of Mandan, ND, she was Mother Advisor of Rainbow and holds the Grand Cross of Colors.

In Mesa, AZ, she was an active member of the Bocce Ball Club, volunteered in the Activity Office, and loved being a member of the Red Hat group. She was an avid bridge player – playing in many marathon and bridge clubs. She enjoyed playing any card games and even learned to play Euchre once she moved to Lake Mills.

She always enjoyed doing crafts and baking and belonged to a homemaker’s club. Many Trinity Pines residents benefited from her baked treats. She had lots of friends to dine with and bake for.

In her younger days in Mandan, she and Erv enjoyed square dancing and belonged to several birthday and anniversary groups. Jean was lucky enough to be able to spend winters in Mesa, Arizona for 23 years. She is survived by her two daughters, Pamela (John) Reich of Lake Mills, Tammy (Bruce) Peterson of Rio Verde, AZ; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Vogelsang of El Cajon, CA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Also preceded in death by two sisters, Eldean Corcoran and Jeannette Walsdorf, both of Bismarck, ND. A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held in June at Trinity Pines in Lake Mills. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with her husband.
