Obituary for Jerrold “Tater” R. Almers Jerrold “Tater” R. Almers, 64, of Summerville, husband of Shirley J. Almers, passed away at 6:45 am on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at his residence. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Rd. , Summerville, SC 29485. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 2090 Executive Hall Rd # 130, Charleston, SC 29407.
Jerrold was born on June, 7, 1954 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Walter and Susie Almers. Jerrold was my baby. He was employed by Robert Bosch and retired after 40 years.
He loved his Bosch family. Especially, Ernie, Jerry, Gary and Richard. He was a very competitive softball player and coached many teams, including the Bosch team along with his lifelong friend Louie Craven.
He played for Summerville Greenwave, graduating in 1973. The greatest punter. He along with his two brothers wore the #82.
He, and his brothers are mentioned in Coach McKissick’s book. His three girls didn’t know there was anywhere else to go but a softball tournament every weekend. He also coached his daughters softball teams when they were growing up.
Jerrold loved playing golf after he became ill, that was all he watched on TV 24/7. Survivors including his wife Shirley are: three daughters: Heidi A. Varela (Francisco) of Moncks Corner, Holli Almers of Summerville and Hayli A. Dantz (Tony) of Boiling Springs; four stepchildren: Melanie Snipes (Michael) of Summerville, Steven Robinson (Jenn) of Boise, ID, Brandon Evanoff of California and Christopher Dorothy of Summerville; nine grandchildren: Kolbie, Brandon, Zuri, Jaykob, Alex, Kingston, AdiLee, Xavier and Olivia; four step grandchildren: Emma, Leila, Zachary, Elijah; six sisters: Carolyn A. Huckabee of West Ashley, Barbara A. Lowery of Pensacola, FL, Mary A. Flowers of Branchville, Rebecca Nigro (Will) of Summerville, his twin sister Sheryl A. Hopkins (Austin) of Kingsland, GA and Tammy A. Shepard (Terry) of Summerville; two brothers: Floyd Almers (Ann) and Theodore Almers of Summerville. He was predeceased by one brother: Walter R. Almers, Jr. The family would like to Thank Agape Hospice nurses, nurses aides and staff for all their love and support and Rev.
