Jessie Loreta McCullough, 96, of Center Ave. , Carlsbad, NM, passed away May 13, 2019 at her home. Visitation will be 3-5 PM, Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.

A vigil is scheduled for 7 PM, Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 AM, Thursday, May 16, 2019 at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Connell officiating.

Interment will follow in Hagerman Cemetery, Hagerman, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jessie was born May 2, 1923 in Roswell, NM to Jesse Jewell and Minnie Lola (Teurman) Davis.

She grew up in Hagerman, many times reminiscing about Mary White Girl Scout Camp. Jessie graduated valedictorian from Hagerman High School in 1941. She married Arvil McCullough in Hagerman.

They moved to Carlsbad in 1952. Jessie was active in the Catholic Church both at St. Edward and San Jose since 1954 and was a life member of Third Order of St. Francis. She volunteered in numerous organizations including the Red Cross and the Eddy County Jail as a librarian.

Jessie enjoyed singing, dancing and being involved in her children’s lives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arvil McCullough; son, Michael Gerard McCullough; sister, Wanda Ivey and two grandchildren. Survivors are her children: Denton Ross McCullough of Carlsbad; Linda Navarrete and husband, Zeke of Carlsbad; Karen Sue McCullough of Albuquerque; Arvil Stephen McCullough and wife, Kathy of Olathe, CO, Paul Douglas McCullough of Carlsbad, Teresa Marie McCullough of Taos, NM, Phillip Dean McCullough and wife, Olivia of Carlsbad, Donna Kay Stafford and husband, Gary of Canadian, TX; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Aaron Davis and wife, Phyllis of Pensacola, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
