Joan Darlene Shaffer, 77, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born September 19, 1941 in Tyrone, Carroll County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Stair and May Elizabeth (Wantz) Sheely. Joan retired from Hardee’s Restaurant and Little George’s Convenience Store as a cashier.

She always enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading Harlequin Romance Novels, and her pet cats. Surviving are her devoted husband and friend of 37 years, Richard W. Jasper of Westminster; daughter, Cheryl S. Beal and husband Terry of Westminster; sons, Timothy B. Stair of Westminster and Daniel L. Shaffer, Jr. and wife Kathy of Manchester; sisters, Naomi Marsh and husband Claude of Taneytown and Joyce Greenholtz of Westminster; brother, Robert Stem and wife Donna of Taneytown; grandchildren, Joshua Pittinger, Curtis Schultz, Alicia Stair, Robert Ingle and wife Laura, Amanda Ingle, Dustin Shaffer and Sabrina Shaffer; 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Wantz.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster with funeral celebrant John C. Morrill officiating. A visitation will begin before the service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Westminster. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17th at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave. , Westminster, MD 21157.
