Joan Fitzgerald Bayer passed away peacefully at age 91 at Silverado Berkeley. Joan was born in North Andover, MA. She earned a BS at University of Rochester and a MA at Mount Holyoke in Physics.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, camping, travel, and bridge. Joan was gracious with a wry sense of humor, and devoted to her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bryce E. Bayer, inventor of the color filter array used in most digital cameras today; and by her sister Justine.

She is survived by her sister Connie; son Dave and spouse Laurie of Concord; son Doug and spouse Marty of Ithaca; daughter Janet and spouse Arl of Berkeley; and grandchildren Nicole, Anastasia and Cas. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Silverado Berkeley Senior Living on Saturday, October 6 at 3 pm.
