Joan (Martin) Chappell, age 84, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 9:58 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Joan was born November 19, 1934, in Louisville, IL, to George and Helen (Fry) Martin. She was a member of Crossroads Christian Church, and she worked as their Financial Secretary for many years.

Joan loved gardening, reading, sewing, traveling, and playing Mahjong. Joan is survived by her daughters, Joellen Harris (Jim) of Elberfeld, IN, and Jill Stallings (Steve) of Houston, TX; sons, William Chappell of Evansville, IN, and Charles Chappell (Christine) of Hershey, PA; grandchildren, Clint Harris (Cherrie), Sean Harris (Sarah), Denis Stallings, Emily Stallings, Andrew Stallings, Benjamin Chappell, Anna Chappell, William Chappell, and Elena Chappell; great grandchildren, Max Harris, Tyson Harris, and Mackenzie Harris; sister, Elinor Sue Staser (Bill) of Clay City, IL; and brother, John Martin (Linda) of Rutherfordton, NC. Joan is preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband of 42 years, William C. Chappell, who passed away in 1999.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Rod Hoschouer officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019, in Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin, IL. Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2019, and from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, June 1, 2019, at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
