Joe L. Buchanan, age 76, of Marion, North Carolina went home to be with his Lord on Friday, April 27, 2018 at his residence. The son of the late Holden and Dollie Pitman Buchanan, Joe was born in Mitchell County, North Carolina on March 19, 1942. Joe loved raising miniature horses, watching wrestling, and “tinkering” with his 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe and 1952 F4 Ford Truck.

He enjoyed not only spending time with his children and grandchildren but teaching them many work skills and good work ethics. Joe was very active and a dedicated member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church for over 45 years where he was Chairman of the Cemetery Committee and served as a Deacon. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth Buchanan; one daughter, Martha Gouge (Tim); one son, Larry Buchanan, Jr. (Linda); two brothers, Dean Buchanan (Frances) and Bobby Buchanan (Vernell); and four sisters, Margaret Greene, Katherine Pate (Virgil), Pauline Burleson and Judy Murphy (Kenneth).

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Josh Buchanan (Mercedez), Cody Buchanan (Destiny) and Brooke Buchanan; and three great grandchildren, Caden, Hunter and Cooper. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory in Marion. A service to celebrate the life of Joe will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Cross Memorial Baptist Church with Rev.

Ryan Bennett and Rev. Doug Prevette officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
