John Walter Lowery, age 70, of Marion, North Carolina passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Lowery was born June 28, 1947 in Mitchell County, NC to the late Dock Oda Lowery and Marion S. Styles Lowery. He was a Vietnam veteran of the US.

Army. He enjoyed canning, gardening, fishing and especially playing music on his guitar. His family lovingly remembers him as a wonderful husband and father.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Left behind to cherish Mr. Lowery’s memories are his beloved wife of 24 years, Vonda Bowman Lowery; four children, Juanita “Peanut” Dockery, Pamela Edwards (Butch), April Johnson (Sean) and Jonathan “Bo” Lowery (Valerie); one step-son, Jacob Bowman (Amy); sixteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Beam Funeral Service. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Donald Morris officiating. Interment will follow the service at Biddix Cemetery with military honors.
