Mrs. Mary Hobbs Holland, age 88, of Marion passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at her home while surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong resident of McDowell County, Mary was born on December 6, 1929 to the late Bryson Hobbs and Hannah Murphy Hobbs Redding. She was a sweet woman, who had nerves of steel to raise four rambunctious boys, and who also never had a bad word to say about anyone.

Mary enjoyed listening to and was a fan of Neil Diamond. She loved canning and enjoyed playing softball. Mary was a longtime member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by a son, Doug Holland; and a granddaughter Amy Parker. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 67 years, Luther “Luke” Holland, of the home; three sons, Kenny Holland and wife Hazel of Marion, Terry Holland and Wife Gina of Marion, and Dennis Holland and wife D’Ann Lee of Mars Hill; five grandchildren, Dana Ingoglia and husband Johnny of Tampa, FL, Chad Holland of Marion, Ashley Holland of Hickory, Dustin Parker and wife Misty of New Bern, and Gioia Holland and ; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Detter and husband Toney of Hickory. Her family will receive friends Friday, May 11th, 2018 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home of Marion.

A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home of Marion with Rev James Walker officiating. Interment will follow in McDowell Memorial Park.
