Charles “Bug” Simpson, age 73, of Marion, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his home. Bug was born January 27, 1945 in McDowell County to the late Hewie Simpson and Frankie Hawkins Simpson. He retired from Marion Manufacturing and was a member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church.

Bug was an avid Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Tarheels fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and fishing. He has also always enjoyed old country music, old western movies and reading true crime novels.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his step-mother, Essie Williams Clark; one sister, Gloria Wilson; two brothers, Bo Williams and Gene Hawkins; and one sister-in-law, Pat Williams. Left behind to cherish Bug’s memories are two children, Chuck Simpson and wife, Michelle and Donna Kuykendall and husband, John; four grandchildren, Ryan Simpson, Kristen Simpson, Eric Simpson and Chris Kuykendall; three sisters, Ann Vance and husband, Bob, Joyce Hawkins and husband, Dennis and Nancy Bradford and husband, Phillip; two brothers, Frank Williams and wife, Coylene and Ray Williams; one brother-in-law who was more like a brother, Gary Wilson; a number of nieces and nephews; and close friends, Roger Ferguson and Shannon Cable. A private memorial service to celebrate Bug’s life will be held at a later date.
