Obituary for John “Boots” Knapp JOHN ALBERT KNAPP “BOOTS” FULL CIRCLE Born October 3, 1941 to Gertrude and Albert Knapp, John aka Boots, was born in Dobbs Ferry Hospital and grew up in Hastings on Hudson. He was the youngest of his family. John had three older sisters; Doris, Audrey and Pat.

John attended Hastings HS where he lettered in track and football. Upon his graduation John left Hastings to serve his country. John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 – 1965.

He spent the latter half of his tour assigned to the American Embassy in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. It is there that he met his future. He returned to the United States and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1965.

Shortly thereafter he was married and began the next chapter of his life. John lived out his life in Dobbs Ferry; most of which was with Vera and his daughter, Kerry. He proudly served on the Hastings PD for 28+ years.

At the time of his retirement he had achieved the rank of Detective Sergeant. He worked closely with his brother-in-law, Harry Bloomer, who was married to his sister, Audrey. John had a quiet way about him, a dry sense of humor and was an honest man.

He was more apt to give than to receive. John enjoyed cheering for the Giants and the Yankees; listening to Sinatra, samba and bossa nova; member of S.M.A.C. and he loved his family.
