Obituary for Allison Crane Allison Crane, of Irvington, beloved sister and aunt, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on November 21. She had suffered a stroke on November 19 after a long illness. She was born on May 11, 1932 at the Women’s Hospital in New York City, daughter of Roger Alan Crane and Jessie Louise Taft Crane.

She lived in Croton-on-Hudson, where she attended the Pierre Van Cortland Elementary School and Croton-Harmon High School, until 1948, when her family moved to Rye. She graduated from Rye High School in 1950 and earned her B.A. from Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Mass. in 1954.

Most of her career was spent at Oxford University Press in New York City where, among other positions, she handled the granting of permissions to quote Oxford books. She retired in 1999. Allison loved ballet, the NY Yankees, and riding her beloved horse, Admiral.

She was active in the Church of St. Barnabas in Irvington and sang in the choir there for several decades. She was a member of the Advisory Board of the Irvington Senior Center. She was warm, loving, and generous with family, friends, church, and charities tho she was also capable of acerbic comments and a strangely intimidating quizzical look with one eyebrow raised.

She is survived by her sister, Frances Crane of New York City, her brother, Alan Crane and his wife, Tamara Prince, of Silver Spring, Maryland, niece Laurel and family of NY, and nephew Arthur and family, of Budapest. The family is deeply appreciative of all the help given by her friends, especially Barbara Wright and Mary Merryman, and the aides who cared for her, especially Evelyn King. A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas at a date to be determined.

Her ashes will be interred at the Memorial Garden at St. Barnabas. Memorial contribution may be made in her name to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (www. bbbs.org).
