Obituary John Charles Anz July 9, 1943 – March 24, 2019 John Charles “Spud” Anz passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born to John and Marie Britz Anz on July 9, 1943 in San Antonio. As a young boy, his favorite food was mashed potatoes, and his uncle gave him the nickname Spud.

John attended Sam Houston High School. He signed with the Cleveland Indians baseball team and went to spring training. He was cut at spring training and upon returning home he began a career that mimicked his father’s.

John became a firefighter and paramedic through the San Antonio Fire Department. He served for 32 and a half years. John continued to play softball developing many lifelong friends.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman as he traveled nationally in pursuit of North American big game and fish. Some of his favorite destinations were Alaska, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Idaho and Canada. Another past time was cooking for his family, friends and the Fire Department.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Rosie Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Claudia Haag Anz; and three children, Chuck Anz (Suzie), Shelly LaRue (Shaun), and Bryan Anz; six grandchildren: Kayla and Kandace Anz, Ashlee and Emilee LaRue, and Lea and J.W. “Dub” Anz; his sister Judy Vosburg (Gary); his brother-in-laws Walter Haag (Catherine) and Cliff Nelson; numerous nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 1, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Boerne, TX. To leave condolences for the family and to view a video of John’s life, please visit www. ebensberger-fisher.com and select obituaries.
