Obituary Oscar David Graham May 25, 1935 – February 11, 2019 Oscar David Graham, 83, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on February 11, 2019. He was born to Joe Stanley Graham and Annie Lorean Loftin in Alpine, Texas. The oldest of five children, David grew up on several ranches in West Texas.
David graduated from Marathon (Texas) High School in 1954 as Valedictorian. Also graduating from Marathon High School in 1954 was his high school sweetheart, Juanita Bricker, whom he had met when she was 13. He married Juanita in Austin, Texas on November 25, 1955 while a sophomore at Texas A&M studying electrical engineering.
David played trombone all four undergraduate years in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. He would eventually receive a PhD degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M. In July 1968 through July 1969, as a US Air Force pilot, David flew 193 combat missions in the F – 4D Phantom Jet serving in the Night Owls Squadron in Southeast Asia where he received many honors including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He always considered his wife the real hero as he left her at home with eight young children ages five months to eleven years while he served in Southeast Asia. His love of country led him to a 20-year career in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in June, 1979 when he moved to Boerne with his family and began an eight-year career at Southwest Research Institute.
He considered his time serving his country, which he called “a land choice about all others”, a distinct privilege, and he instilled patriotism deep in the hearts of his family and friends. David was as dedicated in his service to God and family as he was his country. David and Juanita were devout members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He dedicated many selfless hours in many callings including Bishop, Branch President and Scoutmaster. He also served many years as a temple worker in the Dallas, Houston and San Antonio temples. Losing his wife to illness in 2016 was difficult and he longed to be with her again.
He is survived by two brothers, Martin and Ray, and his 10 children: Charles (Jackie), Mike (Lynette), Donna (Delb) Wilson, Brenda (David) Allen, Karen Sievert, Lori (Bruce) Cobabe, Ron (Margaret), Gary (Emily), Stephen (Leah), Susan (Chuck) Smith, and his 62 grandchildren and 80 great grandchildren who miss him dearly.
