Obituary for John Charles Van Horn John Charles Van Horn, born October 4, 1946, went home to be with the LORD on December 29, 2018. John was born in Floyd County, Georgia to Doyle and Mary Louise Van Horn. He attended O’Keefe High School in Atlanta and graduated from Georgia State University with a BBA in Accounting.

He served in the US Army and very much loved his country. He retired from the Georgia Building Authority where he worked as the Director of Accounting. He was married to the love of his life, Ginger Gresham, on December 24, 1994 and just celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary.

John is survived by one daughter, Heather Matthews (Matt) of Mansfield; and two stepchildren, Heather Wallace and Haden Wallace (Emily) of Rome. He leaves behind eight grandchildren; Kenyan Wallace of Rome, Alyssa Rodriguez of Rome, Darian Reid of Mansfield, Alex Rodriguez of Rome, Emaleigh Lease of Mansfield, Jackson Lease of Mansfield, Jonathan Lease of Mansfield and Harper Wallace of Rome. John has four brothers; David Van Horn (Ann) of Cumming, Randy Van Horn of Rome, Jeff Van Horn (Glenda) of Rome and Gregory “Pete” Van Horn (Mildred) of Yorkville.

John’s most prized possessions were his grandchildren whom he enjoyed going fishing with and attending Rome Braves baseball games with. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Rome from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Services will begin immediately following the viewing.

Pastors Eddie LaFountain and Joey Haynes will officiate. Cemetery Services will be conducted at East View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would request that donations be made in Memory of John Van Horn to the American Diabetes Association: www.
