Obituary for John E. Freier Beloved father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 28, 2018. Age 67 years. The son of the late Emil and Evelyn (Aldrich) Freier, John was born April 26, 1951 in Saginaw, Michigan.

He graduated Saginaw High School in 1969 and became a Sheet Metal Journeyman. He was employed at Sheet Metal Workers Local #7 until his retirement. In 1973, John married Pamela (McGaw) Freier and they raised four children together.

They divorced in 2008 but remained friends. John liked fishing, hunting with family and lifelong friends, dive restaurants, and occasionally dusting off his golf clubs. He believed in hard work, the value of a dollar, and voting.

He did not believe in throwing out leftovers, which resulted in some creative dinners. John spent many hours listening to Ernie Harwell announce Tigers games and yelling at the Wings’ and Lions’ refs. He loved working with his hands and taught himself how to repair cars, tie fishing flies, build furniture, and make beautiful pieces with stained glass.

Even when John didn’t know how to fix something, he was willing to try, and took pride in teaching his children to do the same. All his life, John made spending time with his family a priority. Dad’s eyes twinkled when something delighted him, and never more brightly than when he was spoiling his grandkids.

Grandpa would take each child individually to do special things with them. He wanted them to know they are important, loved, and supported in everything they do. His friends and family will miss and love him always.

Surviving him are three daughters, one son and their spouses; Erin and Casey Kilts of Saginaw; Eric and Missie Freier of Freeland; Sara and Jake Moler of Las Vegas; Ann and Justin Jacqmain of Fort Worth, Texas; John’s grandchildren, James, Genevieve, Landon, Audrey, Zachary, Lucas, Alex, Ryker, Bryson and Bosco; sisters Susan and Debra; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Mark and his brother-in-law Danny. Cremation has taken place and he can be visited at Oakwood Mausoleum.

John’s family will receive friends and family at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. , (between Shattuck and McCarty), on Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan.
