Mr. John E. Montgomery, age 97 of Franklin, KY, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018 at 1:15 PM at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Franklin Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

John was born September 15, 1921 in Sumner Co., TN. to the late John Earl Montgomery and the late Mattie Daniels Montgomery. He was preceded in death by a son John David Montgomery, a grandson Robert, a great grandson Isaiah and 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

He is survived by 2 children Kay Drake and Phillip Montgomery (Teresa) all of Franklin, KY, 5 grandchildren Butch Drake, Rynde Dial, Nicki Buchanon, Amanda Krutza, Jessie Hussung, 10 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, 3 step children and several step great grandchildren. John was a member of the Franklin Church of Christ where he was former Sunday School teacher and elder, also a member of the VFW post #5706, American Legion post #62 and the Am Vets. He was a WWII Army Veteran.

John E. lived a long life in service to his Lord, his country, his family and his community. Retired from Par Gas, he continued to do odd jobs for people in the community for many years. Dancing and singing karaoke were two of his favorite pastimes.

Fishing was a hobby that not only was fun but also put food on the table. His stories, wisdom and love for the Lord will live on in the memories of his immediate family and extended family. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Franklin Church of Christ and from 6:00 AM until service time on Saturday.
