John Edward Borgerding, 88, of Beloit, WI, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Alden Meadow Park Health Center, Clinton, WI. He was born April 12, 1930 in Lafayette, IN, the son of Maurice and Ursula (Branigan) Borgerding. John was a 1947 graduate of Beloit High School, where he was a standout, all-state offensive lineman.

John served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, stationed on the Pacific island of Guam. He married Mary Ann Hemes on February 19, 1954 in Port Washington, WI. In 1956 he graduated from Regis College in Denver, CO with BS in English and while there, became an avid and accomplished skier.

In 1960, John graduated from Norte Dame Law School, going on to practice law in his hometown of Beloit for many years. John was an immensely proud Notre Dame alumnus, passing down his love for Notre Dame, particularly football, to many of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed reading about history and the law and imparted different traits and gifts to each of his children.

He was a member of the Notre Dame Law Alumni Association and St. Jude Catholic Church in Beloit. John is survived by his six children, Mike Borgerding of Atlanta, GA, Caryn Langdon of Beloit, WI, Mary Jo (Ron) Sheean of Atlanta, GA, John Borgerding, Jr. of Beloit WI, William (Jennifer) Borgerding of Madison, WI and Eric (Dana) Borgerding of Verona, WI; ten grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole and Nate Borgerding, Andy and Tommy Sheean, Grace and Max Borgerding, and Erin, Brian and Christopher Langdon; brother Robert (Mary Helen) Borgerding of Littleton, CO; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Joan Reynolds and Francis Sheehy.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in St. Jude Catholic Church, 737 Hackett Street, Beloit, WI. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation of remembrance will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday in the church.

Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.
