John’s Obituary COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME, 2170 HIGHWAY 88, BRICK, NJ John F. McCarthy, formerly of Metuchen, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2019. John was born and raised in Newark, NJ. After graduating from West Side High School, he served in the United States Air Force for four years.

John worked in the plastics industry. He invented a heat-sealable material that was used in bound plastic books while working for Union Carbide Corporation. The material was later patented.

John worked as a process engineer for several other plastics manufacturers, including Owens Illinois, Brockway and Vanguard. John is survived by his five children: Mary Young, Michael McCarthy, William McCarthy, Thomas McCarthy and John D. (Jake) McCarthy. He is also survived by his former wife Ann and eleven grandchildren.

Friends and relatives may visit on Wednesday, May 22nd from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick, NJ. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.
