JOHN HOWARD HAVENS JR. , age 74, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 6:44 a.m. at Mount Carmel West. He was born on November 12, 1943 in Union County, North Carolina to John Howard and Marjorie Lucille Dove Havens.

John was a 1961 graduate of Greenfield McClain High School. He retired from Mac Tools in 1995 after thirty years of service. John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, country music, cooking out, watching the Cleveland Browns, and being with his family and grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Nicholas Havens. Survivors include his wife, Winnie Knisley Havens, whom he married on August 15, 1963; children, John (Leslie) Havens III, Tony Havens, Eric (Linda) Havens, Chris Havens, and Amanda (William) Harper; grandchildren, Brandon Havens, Felecity, London, and Skylar Havens, Angela Murphy, Tyler and Sarah Havens, Dartaynene Zimmerman, Andrew, Nicolet, Eric, and Eva Harper; great-grandson, Isaac Havens; and brothers, Lloyd Havens, Steve Havens, and Kirby (Sue) Havens.

Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with burial to follow at the White Oak Grove Cemetery with Danny Dodds officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
