John J. Smutz Jr., 53, of Keyport, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday morning, May 22, 2018. John was born on March 29, 1965 in New Brunswick, New Jersey and grew up in Somerset. On May 5, 1989, he married his beloved wife, Anna, and they began their lives together in Keyport, New Jersey, where they raised their family.

Over the years, John worked as a Lineman for Local Union #456, as well as Henkels and McCoy Company. He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, brother and friend. He was predeceased by his mother, Jeanette (Horvath) Smutz.

John is survived by his father, John J. Smutz Sr., his beloved and devoted wife of 29 years, Anna (Giaritta) Smutz, his loving children, Alannah Smutz of Belford, New Jersey, Nicholas Smutz of Keyport, New Jersey and Evan Smutz of Keyport, New Jersey, his dear sister, Dawn Smutz-Delugo and her husband Charles of Virginia, and his brother, Paul Smutz and family. John is also survived by his many cherished nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

In respect of John’s wishes, he will be privately cremated. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning, May 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Jesus the Lord Roman Catholic Church, 123 Broad Street, Keyport, New Jersey 07735.
