John W Kraus Jr , March 22, 1925 — May 01, 2018

John Walter Kraus, Jr., 93, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Brethren Home – Cross Keys Village, New Oxford, PA. Born March 22, 1925 in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late John W., Sr. and Rachel (Arheimer) Kraus. John was the loving husband of the late Jacqueline Adair (Gorman) Kraus, who died December 7, 1989 and with whom he shared twenty-four years of marriage.

John was a 1943 graduate of Baltimore City College. He retired from Frank A. Serio & Sons in 1991 after forty-five years of service. John served his country proudly in the United States Navy and was the recipient of three bronze stars, combat air medals, and a distinguished flying cross.

John served as a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He was a former member of the VFW and the Moose. John is survived by his children, Sharon McCoy and husband Wayne of Westminster, MD, Colleen McPherson and husband Thomas of Gettysburg, PA, Michael Kraus and wife Janet of Union Bridge, MD, Steven Kraus of California, Douglas Kraus and wife Rochelle of Potomac, MD, and Roger Kraus and wife Cynthia of White Plains, MD; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Kraus Levin; and a brother, Samuel Kraus. Viewings and times to share memories with the family will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM, Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA. A graveside service will be 10:45 AM, Friday, May 4, 2018 at Garrison Forest Veteran’s Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD.
