Joseph A. Arata, age 74, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2019. He was born on May 16, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio to the late James and Doris Arata. He was a class of 1962 graduate from Central High School.

Music was a passion of his, and he enjoyed being involved in concert band, orchestra, dance band and the Pirate Peppers in high school and won the John Philip Sousa Award as an accomplished trombonist. He was also a charter member of the TurnPoint Apostolic Church later in life. Joseph retired as a superintendent and active member of the Carpenters Local #200.

He loved volunteering his time for Lifecare Alliance and Meals on Wheels and had to stay active even after his retirement. His family and grandchildren meant the world to him. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 37 loving years, Sharon; sons, Joseph (Cara) Arata II and Tim (Jamie) Byrd; daughters, Cathy Byrd, Jodi Arata, Kelly Byrd, and Julie (Billy) Orris; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; brothers, James L. Arata of Mansfield, OH and Paul Steven Arata of Groveport, OH; and his TurnPoint Church family.

Friends may call from 5 PM to 8 PM on Monday, February 4 at TurnPoint Apostolic Church, 7718 Groveport Rd in Groveport, OH where his Celebration of Life service will be at 11 AM with a visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joseph’s name may be made to the TurnPoint Apostolic Church Building Fund. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Joseph A.
